Neck Pain This page will help guide you to a solution to solve your neck pain once and for all.
If so, you may have tried changing your pillows", mattress or maybe even sleeping position. Whilst these are all very important you may be missing the key to correcting your problem permanently.
All of the above are signs that something is wrong.
Taking medications only masks your symptoms by blocking pain receptors. Sure your pain may go away temporarily with the medication, but what is causing the pain to begin with is left behind and could cause further damage later on if not corrected?
Often times, the cause of neck, back and shoulder pain is a condtion known as forward head posture. Think about this, your head weighs about 4-6 KG and when your neck is in normal alignment keeps your head centered above your shoulders.
When your neck is not in proper alignment, it moves forward and then all the muscles that hold your head upright are being pulled on and strained. Even if your head moves forward just a little bit, the tension in the neck and shoulder muscles increases. In fact, the tension will double for every 2-3 cm's. your head is forward. Ouch!!
This conditions is knows as Forward Head Posture
Forward head posture can also be related to a number of other conditions, including:
I have no pain in my upper back, shoulders, arms and neck.I no longer take anti-depressants. I have enthusiasm for life and, in particular, I am learning new skills to embark on a new career. In general I feel "free"!!
I wasn't sleeping and was experiencing neck pain. I am now able to better perform in my job as a Pilates Teacher.
I had constant headache for 17 years!! I wish I had started sooner as I felt better immediately.
I had headaches and neck strain for 3 years. I noticed improvements straight away.I am happier, more alert and full of energy.
To determine if Forward Head Posture is causing your neck pain, we perform a comprehensive examination using 4 unique tools.
1/ We perform a posturography test. This non-invasive test allows us to pinpoint weak areas within your posture to be able to prescribe the correct treatment for your postural problems.
2/ We perform a structural x-ray analysis. A structural x-ray analysis differes from normal x-rays in 3 ways. First a structural x-ray analysis uses physics and mathematics to accurately indicate the amount of forward head posture you have. Very important when determining the appropriate type of care you need. Second the x-rays are also taken while you are standing in what is your "normal" posture, not lying down. Third point of difference is that your x-rays are analyzed for subluxation degeneration. This helps us to determine how long problems have been in your spine and also helps to determine approximately how long it will take to correct your problems as well as the safest form of care to correct your spine.
3/ We perform a computerized gait analysis. This analyses any structural problems in your feet. This is very important because if your feet are not structurally supporting you, this too can lead to forward head posture.
4/ Finally we perform thermal imaging. This state of the art examination picks up temperature assymetry which can indicate abnormal nervous system function.
Once we have performed all the above, we will then carefully evaluate your findings and then report them back to you in an easy understandable way and outline a program to get your problems resolved.
